Internships are optional and represent one path to the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for those not holding the IBCLC). These independent projects enable the learner to accumulate 900 internship hours of supervised, mentored clinical experience in lactation management in hospital, public health and/or community settings. Activities include identifying possible internship sites and accumulating the internship hours. These theoretical foundations and experiences are designed to develop lactation assessment, client management and documentation competencies.
