Introduces the primary concepts and questions of philosophy and encourages students to examine several philosophical ideas, including reasoning and logic, the nature of reality, origin and validity of knowledge, the existence of a supreme being, the nature of freedom and morality, value of art, and the relationship between the individual and his or her society. (Arts and Humanities elective)

Examines the various methods of ethics that have been taught by different western moral philosophers. Methods examined in order to determine the rational procedures for what individuals ought to do or what is right for them to do. Methods are applied to a variety of contemporary moral problems. (Arts and Humanities elective).

Logic is the study of arguments. In this class, students will learn how to construct good arguments and how to criticize bad arguments. Students in this class will also learn the formal languages of propositional and predicate logic, which not only comprise the formal structure of philosophy, but have applications in other fields such as mathematics, computer science and linguistics.

A practical study of the ethical obligations between healthcare professionals and their patients within the context of critical decision-making, case studies, laws and provider/patient rights. Topics will include: abortion, euthanasia, informed consent, genetic manipulation, truth-telling, medical research, and decision-making.

Introduces students to traditional wet-lab photography, both as a fine art and a commercial application. This course addresses camera technical and aesthetic controls, film exposure and development, darkroom printing, fundamentals of composition and light. Student must provide fully manual 35mm SLR film camera.

Introduction to digital imaging technologies and techniques as applied to photography. Course will cover digital camera operation, image correction and enhancement via image manipulation software, optimizing digital output, and optimizing image capture. In addition to technical skills students will address image concepts and composition as means of communication. Student must provide own digital camera with manual operation capability. (Digital Single Lens Reflex preferred)

Basic concepts of perception, visual order, color symbolism, iconography and pictorial imagery as it pertains to communication. Physiological, psychological, social and cultural biases examined to gain a better understanding of how to create effective photographs, layouts, illustrations, videos and information design. (Arts and Humanities elective).

Introduction to lighting control in a studio environment. Students learn fundamental lighting techniques and patterns using electronic flash equipment and light modification tools. Lighting equipment provided by the department. Digital Single Lens Reflex camera required.

Survey course designed to present the developments of photography as a technology and an art form. Students examine the impact of photography on art, science and mass communication in Western culture. Upon completion, the student will have sufficient background to recognize a variety of photographic images and genres and understand the historical context as well as contemporary ethical issues related to such images.

ENG 111 or ENG 111

Fundamental technical and aesthetic skills learned in B&W Photo I strengthened and expanded through the use of fiber based paper, lower ISO films, larger printing sizes and refined exposure, lighting and processing considerations. Visual and conceptual creativity further stimulated through the use of alternative materials and processes.
