Includes mathematics of ultrasound physics, properties of continuous and pulsed acoustic waves, effects of interfaces, the generation of ultrasound and Doppler principles. Covers the types of different instrumentation, display modes, image artifacts, quality performance measurements and bioeffects. Achieves didactic objectives through the use of images, supplemental reading materials, lecture, and class discussion. Prerequisite:    MIT106

    Emphasizes sonographic protocols, anatomy and physiology of the abdomen, the liver, gallbladder/biliary system, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, abdominal vasculature, male pelvis, and thyroid. Discuss vascular anatomy and applications of Doppler/color imaging along with hemodynamics as it pertains to each topic. Also discuss correlation of pertinent patient history/assessment, laboratory tests, including other imaging modalities. Includes interpersonal relationships of the imaging department and patient management skills. Achieves didactic objectives through the use of texts, images, supplemental reading materials, lecture, and class discussion. Emphasizes real-time scanning techniques and imaging protocols in laboratory experiences and enhances psychomotor skills in laboratory activities. Achieves psychomotor objectives through laboratory practice sessions enhanced by instructor evaluations. Prerequisite:    MIT 105 and ENG 111 and BIO 211

    This course provides an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of the vascular technologist as a member of the healthcare team. Emphasizes sonographic protocols and anatomy and physiology of the arterial system. This course introduces arterial hemodynamics and physiological factors that govern blood flow essential to the assessment of the circulatory system. Also discusses correlation of pertinent patient history and includes interpersonal relationships of the imaging department and patient management skills. Emphasizes real-time scanning techniques and imaging protocols through laboratory experiences while enhancing psychomotor skills. Prerequisite:    MIT 105 and ENG 111 and BIO 211

This course introduces venous hemodynamics and physiological factors that govern blood flow essential to the assessment of the circulatory system. Also discusses correlation of pertinent patient history, signs, symptoms, and risk factors of venous disease. Specialized arterial and venous testing will also be discussed. Emphasizes real-time scanning techniques and imaging protocols through laboratory experiences while enhancing psychomotor skills. Prerequisite:    DMS 101 and DMS 103 Corequisite:    DMS 104 and DMS 107

    This course describes diagnostic testing techniques and interpretative guidelines utilized in the evaluation of intracranial cerebrovascular, penile, and specialty examinations. It begins with a review of normal anatomy and pathophysiology, as well as incorporates signs and symptoms, risk factors, mechanisms of disease and treatment options. Components of a Quality Assurance program are also discussed. Prerequisite:    DMS 101 and DMS 103 Corequisite:    DMS 104 and DMS 105

Includes correlation of pertinent history/assessment, laboratory tests, including other imaging modalities, as well as interpersonal relationships of the imaging department and patient management. Achieves didactic objectives through use of texts, images, supplemental reading materials, lecture, class discussion, and the Internet. Prerequisite:    DMS 212 Corequisite:    DMS 204 and DMS 214

    The study and uses of diagnostic medical sonography and its application in the diagnosis of disease of the breast. This course will include an in-depth study of breast anatomy as well as the ultrasonic characteristics of normal tissue versus pathological processes. The sonographer's role during ultrasound-guided invasive procedures will be discussed as well as the incorporation of other imaging techniques for breast scanning.. Prerequisite:    DMS 212
  • 3.00 Credits

    Review of abdominal / small parts anatomy and physiology. Examines pathology and pathophysiology of the abdomen and small parts of patients with age specific comparisons. The necessary analytical skills of differential diagnosis needed in the clinical environment are emphasized. Correlation with other imaging modalities along with pertinent history and laboratory data is discussed. The interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships of the imaging department and patient management skills will be included.
