    This course emphasizes the importance of proper chairside procedures such as: chair positioning, instrumentation, suctioning, treatment planning, dental charting and caries involvement, medically compromised patient, and parts of the dental unit. This course also involves the instrument tray set-up, pharmacology, the study of drugs, pain management, and how the drugs are prescribed or implemented by the dentist.

    The student is introduced to a variety of dental materials used in dentistry. The physical and chemical properties of these materials are included. Manipulation and practical application of basic dental materials occurs in laboratory sessions with an emphasis on safety and infection control. The course also covers more complex dental materials and operative procedures.

    This course emphasizes the importance of infection control in the dental practice setting. The student will learn proper OSHA Practices and other government agencies that the dental practices will be involved with. Students will learn about MSDS sheets, disposal of sharps, bloodborne pathogens, and identification of hazardous chemicals. The student will learn about major microorganisms, viral diseases, bacterial diseases, and pandemic diseases.

    This course emphasizes the importance of the business portion of the dental practice. The students will learn proper business procedures, such as scheduling, day sheet, computerized practice management software, proper phone technique, and filing. Prerequisite:    DAS 101 and DAS 102 and DAS 103 and DAS 104 and DAS 105 Corequisite:    DAS 107 and DAS 108

    The student is introduced to a variety of dental materials used in dentistry. The physical and chemical properties of these materials are included.     This course emphasized the importance of the specialties that are in the dental field. The students will learn about each specialty and the instruments that are involved with each specialty. The students will learn the dental assistants role in a specialty practice.

    This course emphasizes the importance of radiology. The importance of understand radiation safety for the student and the patient. The student will learn about the x-ray unit, the darkroom, the film, digital imaging, dental film holders and bisecting angle techniques of taking a radiograph.

    This course emphasizes dental team management, practice management; legal and ethical issues in the dental business office. Familiarizes students with dental documents, dental records and appointment management systems. Students have hands on experience with both the Dentrix system and Eaglesoft business office technology.

    The seminar is designed to encourage students to reflect on the experiential learning in DAS 202 and share learning experiences with other classmates. Emphasis is placed on dental specialties, disease prevention, dental office team work, and patient contact, personal and professional growth. An opportunity is provided to review the Ohio Dental Assisting Examination that is held in Columbus, Ohio. Prerequisite:    DAS 101 and DAS 102 and DAS 103 and DAS 104 and DAS 105 and DAS 106 and Corequisite:    DAS 202
  • 5.50 Credits

    This course provides practical application of the dental skills and principles covered in the previous two semesters. The student is assigned to a dental office for supervised practical experience, and is required to provide an evaluation of office experiences and individual work experience sheets. Prerequisite:    DAS 101 and DAS 102 and DAS 103 and DAS 104 and DAS 105 and DAS 106 and Corequisite:    DAS 201
