Studies the diversity of soil organisms, including bacteria, fungi, and invertebrates, as well as soil development, structure, profile, and classification. Relates succession and evolution of plant communities and ecosystems into the major terrestrial biomes with particular attention to their biogeography. Requires individual research into components of typical Northwest Ohio ecosystems, including field study and ecosystem monitoring. Three hours lecture, three hours lab.
