Prerequisite: DNHY 2114, DNHY 2129 (must be taken concurrently) This course is a continuation of DNHY 2114 Dental Hygiene Practice - Clinic II. It provides continued specialized clinical experience in application of dental hygiene practice theory and concepts. In addition, students will implement in-depth treatment planning. This experience will be under the direction, supervision, and evaluation of faculty. (12 contact hours: 12 clinical)

Prerequisite: DNHY 2115, DNHY 2128 (must be taken concurrently) This course provides continued specialized consideration and review of patient services and variables in patient treatment and dental hygiene care. It includes continued correlation of classroom concepts to practice through discussion and exercises in making informed judgments. It also includes discussion of clinical cases. (1 contact hour)

These specialized courses provide opportunities for domestic travel along with a formal course of study. Course topics come from within any academic discipline or are interdisciplinary in nature. Faculty members direct all courses and generally schedule travel outside of the normal academic term.

This course introduces students to the complex world of the Hollywood film industry and provides an examination of the financial, artistic, and technical aspects of Hollywood film production. Students will tour Hollywood studios and will meet with producers, directors, actors, cinematographers, studio executives, art directors, and music directors. (4 contact hours: 2 lecture, 2 lab)

This course introduces students to the Early Childhood professional field and its career opportunities through an exploration of the principles and ideas of quality environments and practices. Students will visit a variety of early childhood programs to observe and familiarize themselves with young children and the role of the early childhood educator. Students must complete a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer work in an early childhood program. (4 contact hours)

This course introduces practical information for the developmentally appropriate use of computers in preschool programs. The course provides an overview of principles, teaching strategies, guidelines for selecting software, and developmental activities for integrating the computer into preschool curriculum. The course introduces and explores the use of the Internet. It also provides students with the knowledge and skills to create materials, using a variety of media, for instructional and assessment purposes. (4 contact hours)

Prerequisite: ECED 1130 This introductory course explores the early childhood development of children, birth to eight years. It examines the physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and intellectual characteristics of children of diverse cultural backgrounds, and of both typical and atypical development. Students will practice skills and techniques for observing, recording, and assessing children's behavior in a variety of early environments. Students must complete at least 20 hours of field work for this course. (4 contact hours)

Prerequisite: ECED 1130 This course introduces a creative approach to the integrated curriculum of literacy, math, science, social studies, health, and physical learning activities for both typical and atypical children in early childhood programs. Students will engage in planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate learning experiences using a variety of instructional materials created by the student. Student must complete at least 20 hours of field work for this course. (4 contact hours)

Prerequisite: Associate Degree graduate in Early Childhood or related field including ECED 2160, or permission of instructor This course is designed to enhance teaching practices and early literacy outcomes for young children by effecting change in classroom environments and curriculum. It focuses on diverse groups of language learners, including the cultural diversity of second-language learners and special needs children in inclusive settings. The course trains literacy specialists for early childhood programs with information on the developmental continuum in early literacy, on standards and assessment to guide professional practice. (4 contact hours)

Prerequisite: ECED 1130, ECED 1530, ECED 1650, ECED 1800; or permission of instructor This course explores the strategies and skills needed for establishing positive, productive relationships with families of young children in early childhood programs and successfully involving them in their child's early education and care. The course focuses on communicating effectively with diverse families on behalf of children' s education and well-being. (3 contact hours)
