    (3 sem. hrs.) A survey of the field of Forensic Science. The application of science to the law. Topics include a discussion of forensic science careers and their relationship to the legal system. Additionally crime scene collection and analysis of physical, biological, and chemical evidence will be discussed. Lab and lecture must be taken concurrently. Important Note: As of 2010-2011 will not satisfy the Natural Sciences requirement of the General Eduaction Requirement. (Spring) PREREQUISITES: Must be Taken Concurrently with FSC101L

    (1 sem. hrs.) Students will explore some of the concepts discussed in lecture and will gain hands-on laboratory experience related to forensic science. This lab course can only be taken concurrently with FSC101. One two-hour lab per week. Important Note: As of 2010-2011 Will not satisfy the Natural Sciences requirement of the General Eduacation Requirements. (Spring) PREREQUISITES: The Laboratory must be taken concurrently with FSC101.

This first semester experience for new students is designed to help students foster a relationship with their academic advisors and to develop skills to assist them in meeting graduation requirements. This includes developing an academic plan of study and setting educational goals. Completion of the program is required for graduation.

    (3 sem. hrs.) An interdisciplinary general-education course for first-year students based on common objectives. Offered in the fall semester, individual sections present students with a wide array of perspectives on these common objectives, but all sections provide first-year students the opportunity to develop their critical thinking, writing, and reading abilities and to engage in the academic life of the university. As a graduation requirement, students are not permitted to withdraw from the course and those failing the class will be re-registered for a section of FYE100 during the following semester. The Seminar is to be taken within the first 24 hours of work at Heidelberg University. Arrowhead Park Campus students are exempt from the FYE100 requirement. Those entering the University with 24 or more hours of transfer credit are neither required not permitted to take the course. This course cannot be substituted for any major or minor requirements.

    (3 sem. hrs.) Comprehensive introductory course covering geological concepts including Earth materials and the processes that affect them. Survey of minerals, rocks, structures, plate tectonics, climatic processes, Earth history, and economic resources. Students electing this course to meet their General Education requirement for a laboratory science must take both GEO101 and GEO101L in the same semester. Three lecture hours per week. (Fall and Spring)

    (1 sem. hrs.) This course is the lab component to GEO101 Physical Geology. The weekly exercises allow students to more fully explore important concepts discussed in lecture and provide first-hand experience in Earth materials and how geologists use them. One 2-hour lab each week. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: The lab must be taken concurrently with GEO101.

    (4 sem. hrs.) Comprehensive one-semester course for the liberal arts student desiring a reasonable knowledge of the principles of earth science. No previous background in science is assumed. Major topics include physical and historical geology, astronomy, meteorology and oceanography. Three lectures and one 2-hour lab period each week. (Spring)
