    (1-3 sem. hrs.) Individual research and field studies in areas such as remedial reading, comparative education, gifted/talented, post-secondary education, special education and experimental approaches to instruction and learning. Each study is subject to the approval of the departmental head. May be scheduled for a maximum of six hours per semester. (Every year) PREREQUISITES: Permission of chair. C- or higher in PSY101.

    (2 sem. hrs.) Students will become familiar with state curriculum models, how curriculum develops/changes, and how schools are organized for instruction. Overview of curriculum and organization of schools. (Middle Childhood, AYA, and Multi-Age). (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: (GPA of 3.0 or pass the Praxis II PLT test and all subject area tests in your major. Check with Education department on which Praxis tests you need to pass). C- in PSY101 and whichever of the following apply to licensure area: EDU350, EDU360, EDU373, EDU375, EDU380, EDU390 for Middle Childhood; EDU350, EDU366, EDU376, EDU386, EDU396 for AYA; MUS373, MUS374 for Music; HPE322 or HPE343 for HPE; EDU336 and academic year abroad for Spanish and German. COREQUISITES: EDU427, EDU428, EDU429 or EDU430.

    (3 sem. hrs.) EDU414 focuses on the skills and knowledge that classroom teachers need to be able to diagnose students' reading difficulties. Reading strategies for struggling readers will be a component of this course. Additionally, the course will provide students with the opportunity to plan/implement a remedial program that is appropriate for a disabled reader. A case study approach will be used and students will receive ample opportunities to apply the skills learned. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: (GPA of 3.0 or pass the Praxis II PLT test and all subject area tests in your major. Check with Education department on which Praxis tests you need to pass). C- or higher in EDU230, EIS285, and PSY101. PRE- or COREQUISITES: EDU344 or EDU350

    (2 sem. hrs.) Students will enroll for appropriate section designed for their specific licensure area: Early, Middle, Adolescence-to-Young Adult, Multi-Age, or Intervention Designed to provide students the opportunity to discuss and reflect upon their experience in students teaching as they assume the role of teacher and to integrate the principles of teaching with previous course work, clinical and field experiences. Focus will be upon sharing and problem solving in relation to issues including but not limited to, classroom management, professionalism, planning, instruction, organization, job procurement, and legal aspects. Research of related professional literature is included. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: (GPA of 3.0 or pass the Praxis II PLT test and all subject area tests in your major . Check with Education department on which Praxis tests you need to pass). C- or higher in whichever of the following courses apply to area of licensure: EDU344, ED345 (Early), EDU350, EDU360, EDU373, EDU375, EDU380, EDU390 (Middle), EDU366, EDU376, EDU386, EDU396 (AYA), MUS373, MUS374 for Music Education Majors; HPE322 or HPE343 for HPE Majors, EDU336 and academic year abroad for Spanish and German majors. Taken concurrently with EDU426, EDU427, EDU428, EDU429 or EDU430. For everybody C- or higher in PSY101.

    This course will examine the use of multicultural children's literature in early and middle childhood classrooms, to promote cultural understanding and affirm the value of diversity in a global society. There will be a strong emphasis on the selection of authentic literature which presents and accurate portrayal of various ethnic groups including but not limited to, African-American, Latino, Asian, and Native American cultures. Theoretical and historical perspectives of multicultural literature, as well as current trends, issues, and controversies will be explored. This course will not satisfy a general education requirement. (Spring and Summer) PREREQUISITES: Open to all Junior and Senior undergraduates and all Graduate students.

    (4 or 8 sem. hrs.) Placement with a qualified teacher and university supervisor in an appropriate classroom setting* for a minimum of 12 consecutive full weeks. Note: When early childhood major is double majoring with intervention specialist major, this course will be reduced to 4 hours and will be a minimum of 6 consecutive, full weeks. Actual participation in classroom activities on a daily basis is the emphasis. Planning, organizing, instruction, and evaluating are key elements. Developing overall classroom management skills, professionalism, cooperative staff relations, and strong work ethic are key elements. No other course work is to be taken during the senior block and the 12 consecutive full weeks of student teaching. *Appropriate classroom setting is defined as one that meets the learned society guidelines for early childhood. The early childhood candidate is required to have experience with both pre-school youngsters and primary level youngsters in an inclusive setting. Placement will be dependent upon a student's prior field experiences in EDU345. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA, C- or higher in PSY101,EDU344, EDU345; Pass Praxis II PLT and sub tests in your licensure area. Senior level only. COREQUISITES: EDU416, EIS379, EIS468

Note: When middle childhood major is double majoring with intervention specialist major, this course will be reduced to 4 hours and will be for a minimum of 6 consecutive, full weeks. Actual participation in classroom activities on a daily basis is the emphasis. Planning, organizing, instruction, and evaluating are key elements. Developing overall classroom management skills, professionalism, cooperative staff relations, and strong work ethic are key elements. No other course work is to be taken during the Senior Block and the 12 consecutive full weeks of student teaching. *Appropriate classroom setting is defined as one that meets the learned society guidelines for middlechildhood. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA, C- or higher in EDU350, EDU375 and whichever two courses apply to area of licensure: EDU360, EDU373, EDU380, EDU390. For everybody C- or higher in PSY101. Pass Praxis II Plt and sub tests in your licensure. Senior level only. COREQUISITE: EDU400, EDU416, EIS379, EIS468

    (4 or 8 sem. hrs.) Placement with a qualified teacher and university supervisor in an appropriate classroom setting *for a minimum of 12 consecutive full weeks. Note: When adolescent-young adult major in double majoring with intervention specialist major, this course will be reduced to 4 hours and will be for a minimum of 6 consecutive, full weeks. Actual participation in classroom activities on a daily basis is the emphasis. Planning, organizing, instruction, and evaluating are key elements. Developing overall classroom management skills, professionalism, cooperative staff relations, and strong work ethic are key elements. No other course work is to be taken during the Senior Block and the 12 consecutive full weeks of student teaching. *Appropriate classroom setting is defined as one that meets the learned society guidelins for the adolescent to young adult licensure areas. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA, C- or higher in EDU350 and whichever course applies to area of licensure EDU366, EDU376, EDU386, EDU396. For everybody C- or higher in PSY101 Pass Praxis II PLT and sub tests in your licensure area. Senior level only. COREQUISITES: EDU400, EDU416, EIS379, EIS468.

    (4 sem. hrs.) Placement with a qualified teacher and university supervisor in an appropriate classroom setting for a minimum of 6 consecutive full weeks. (Student will be placed in other area of licensure classroom for an additional 6 weeks.) Actual participation in classroom activities on a daily basis is the emphasis. Planning, organizing, instruction, and evaluating are key elements. Developing overall classroom management skills, professionalism, cooperative staff relations, and strong work ethic are key elements. No other course work is to be taken during the senior block and the 12 consecutive full weeks of student teaching. *Appropriate classroom setting is defined as one that meets the learned society guidelines for intervention specialist (mild-moderate). (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: 3.0 GPA, C- or higher in EDU344, EDU345 for Early; EDU350, EDU375 and whichever of the following apply to area of licensure: EDU360, EDU373, EDU380, EDU390 (Middle); EDU366, EDU376, EDU386, EDU396 (AYA). For Everybody C- or higher in PSY101 Pass all Praxis II sub tests in your licensure area. Senior level only. COREQUISITES: EDU400 (for all but Early), EDU416, EIS468, and EIS471.

Developing overall classroom management skills, professionalism, cooperative staff relations, and strong work ethic are key elements. No other course work is to be taken during the Senior block and the 12 consecutive full weeks of student teaching. *Appropriate classroom setting is defined as one that meets the learned society guidelines for multi-age. (Fall and Spring) PREREQUISITES: C- or higher in MUS373, MUS374 for Music Education Majors; HPE322 or HPE343 for HPE Majors; EDU336 and academic year abroad for Spanish and German Majors. For everybody C- or higher in PSY101, and EDU 347. Pass Praxis II PLT and sub tests in your licensure. A grade of P in MUS092(Piano proficiency - Music Majors). Senior level only.
