This course examines the sociopolitical and cultural developments of soccer. The connection between the world's most popular sport - soccer - and international politics will be emphasized. Through critical political theory, the role and impact of the nation state, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), transnational corporations, race, gender and class will be discussed and analyzed from cross-cultural perspectives.
