CCM Italian is the first course of a two-semester Italian language and culture sequence for CCM. Completion of 16 VOIC 6075 and 6076 fulfills the CCM language requirement. Students learn basic speaking, listening, reading and writing at a more relaxed pace than in the intensive basic Italian sequence. Classroom time includes direct content-based (cultural) and language instruction as well as communicative activities, with focus on written texts. There will be reference to musical/vocal texts in a limited way, to put language study in a context for practical performance needs. Students deal with authentic materials, acquiring linguistic skills incrementally as a means to achieve intercultural competence.
