This course provides extended study in Sculpture as a three-dimensional medium of expression. It builds on basic principles of sculpture and expands personal definitions and interpretations of contemporary three-dimensional art. It familiarizes students with more advanced tools, materials and techniques. Concepts of form, space/ time, scale, movement, surface, content and function are explored. Lectures cover historical and contemporary sculpture and artists as well as current trends in the discipline. Students formulate written proposals for a direction of their work and create a cohesive body of sculptural artworks. Research presentations, field trips, visiting artists, attendance at exhibitions and mounting exhibitions are a required part of the course. The format of this course includes both seminar and studio/lab components.

Students from all disciplines, propose, develop and mount installation artworks. Projects are site-specific, collaborative, temporal, or multi-disciplinary. Students view and discuss works by established artists and materials relevant to the subject. The course includes production of complex exhibitions both inside and outside of conventional gallery spaces. The course includes extensive discussion of current practice in the field, led by the instructor. Field trips, lectures and visiting artists are a part of the course. The format of this course includes both seminar and studio/lab components.

This course consists of advanced research, experimentation, and production in any photographic mediums, with an increased emphasis on conceptualization, idea development, editing, and presentation. Technical experiments, readings, in-depth critical analysis of artwork, field trips to galleries and museums, and visits with professionals in the field will serve to deepen and broaden the level of inquiry and expertise. Ongoing research appropriate to supporting the studio work is required. The format of this course includes both seminar and studio/lab components.

Independent Study is a course in which a single student works with a single faculty member on a project agreed-upon by the student, teacher, and department chair. In the written proposal for the course, the student may conduct research on a topic or create artwork. They will meet with the instructor at specially-arranged times to evaluate the success of their research or artwork.

This course serves as the culminating experience for Critical Visions Certificate students. Students will identify a dominant way of seeing to critique, and design an individual project that combines critical theory, social analysis, and art, media, or design practice. Course activities include research and discussion of project concepts, individual and group critiques of the developing project, and final execution and display of the project.

This course serves as the capstone experience for Fine Arts majors. The course promotes research and experimentation leading to the development of a successful Senior Thesis Project. Course activities include individual and group critiques of the developing project, the development of a written thesis draft, and research and discussion of project concepts.

This course is a continuation of Senior Thesis Studio 1. It serves as the capstone experience for Fine Arts majors. The course promotes research and experimentation leading to the development of a successful Senior Thesis Project. Class activities include individual and group critiques, discussion of presentation and exhibition of thesis project, as well as completion of Senior Thesis paper. Students will be encouraged to participate in small exhibitions on and off campus.
