THPR 6008: Prop Lab and Crew

Under the supervision of faculty, staff and student prop masters and designers, students will create, manufacture, and maintain the props for various CCM theatrical productions including shows for the Departments of Opera, Drama, and Musical Theatre. It is expected that the tasks assigned to graduate students will require a greater level of skill and sophistication than the majority of those given to undergraduates enrolled in the course.

This is a self-paced laboratory class. Students, both graduate and undergraduate, will work at their own level on Opera, Drama and Musical Theatre productions. In addition to fronting and building wigs and facial hair for the productions, students will attend run-through rehearsals and assist in preparing the Makeup department for all upcoming rehearsals and performances. Students will also be required to take part on the "running crew" and/or pre-show makeup/wig crew. This class will follow closely the rules and regulations of a professional wig and makeup studio. It is expected that the tasks assigned to graduate students will require a greater level of skill and sophistication than the majority of those given to undergraduates enrolled in the course.

The Fall Semester begins with the Hellenic Style and concludes with the Counter Reformation Baroque Style. In addition to the illustrated class lectures students will do independent research on art, architecture and ornament topics and visit local museums and galleries to be able to place and contextualize architecture and interior ornament history as it correlates to the theater repertoire and performance practice.
