    Modern professional level jazz ensemble of 17-20 members which performs a wide variety of styles from historical swing, bebop, post-bop, fusion, and Latin, to avant-garde. Special emphasis is placed on the idiom's great art-music composers such as Thad Jones, Bill Holman, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, and Jim McNeely, on historic re-creations such as Ellington, Basie, Herman and Kenton, and on the performance of student arrangements and compositions.

    Course Description: The CCM Wind Ensemble is a wind band that consists of advanced wind and percussion players and offers training in ensemble skills. This ensemble rehearses and performs a standard body of repertoire as well as new works by current composers, including interaction with notable composers, conductors and soloists. The Wind Ensemble utilizes a flexible instrumentation as determined by the music being performed with a rotation of part assignments when possible. Ensemble participation is by audition only and is designed to help student performers develop sensitivity to and empathy with their colleagues while contributing their own interpretive ideas and responding to those of others. The Wind Ensemble performs two to three concerts per semester at both CCM and off-campus venues.

    The CCM Brass Choir is a conservatory training ensemble made up primarily of CCM performance majors. It plays a broad range of repertoire, from standard brass choir works to readings of contemporary music. This ensemble performs two or three concerts per semester, primarily at Corbett Auditorium. Participation in the Brass Choir is by audition only; they are selected and placed by the CCM studio faculty.

    CCM Virtuosi is a high-level chamber orchestra which will perform from 6-8 concerts a year, each being prepared during one week of evening rehearsals, concluding with a Saturday or Sunday dress rehearsal and concert. Participation in CCM Virtuosi is by audition only; its members represent the highest level of instrumentalists at CCM and are selected and placed by the orchestral conducting and CCM studio faculty. Repertoire will be primarily from the Classical period.

    The CCM Philharmonia is a pre-professional conservatory training orchestra. It plays a broad range of repertoire, from standard symphonic works and opera productions to jazz collaborations and readings of contemporary music. It performs four concerts or projects a semester, primarily at Corbett Auditorium. Participation in the Philharmonia is by audition only; its members represent the highest level of instrumentalists at CCM and are selected and placed by the orchestral conducting and CCM studio faculty.

    The CCM Concert Orchestra is a conservatory training orchestra made up primarily of younger and less experienced CCM performance majors. It plays a broad range of repertoire, from standard symphonic works and opera productions to ballet concerts and readings of contemporary music. It performs three concerts or projects a semester, primarily at Corbett Auditorium. Participation in the Concert Orchestra is by audition only; they are selected and placed by the orchestral conducting and CCM studio faculty.

    Opera/Music Theater Orchestra is an ensemble, as assigned by orchestral conducting faculty, devoted to performing for CCM opera and music theater productions. It is the pit orchestra serving those productions. Members of the class rehearse and perform theatre works under the direction of faculty and student conductors and under the supervision of orchestral conducting and opera faculty. It is intended to teach students how to play and prepare operatic and music theatre repertoire, with an emphasis on flexibility of tempo, adjusting to changing performance conditions and efficient use of rehearsal time. It performs four times a year. Participation is by faculty permission only.
