Special emphasis is placed on the idiom's great art-music composers such as Thad Jones, Bill Holman, Bob Brookmeyer, and Maria Schneider, on historic re-creations such as Ellington, Basie, Herman and Kenton, and on the performance of student arrangements and compositions.
