1.00 Credits
In this course, the major curriculum models prevalent in the field of physical education will be presented. Using these as a base, the student will explore the process of developing a comprehensive curriculum for grades K-12. Prerequisite: PED 3204.

2.00 Credits
This course covers the basic knowledge, acquisition, and application of coaching philosophy, sport psychology, and teaching skills that influence coaching effectiveness. Emphasis will be placed on helping students to analyze and study teaching and coaching behaviors that are necessary for students interested in the coaching profession. A coaching practicum is included and is designed to provide the student an in-thefield coaching experience in which he/she can, in a supervised situation, develop, test, and modify his/her coaching knowledge, skill, and attitudes.

2.00 Credits
This course allows the student to gain practical experience by completing a minimum of 120 hours of supervised work under a National Athletic Trainer Association Certified athletic trainer. The student must keep a detailed work log and will be evaluated periodically. CPR and First Aid certification is required.

Through this course the student will learn the major principles underlying the acquisition of motor skill and how control of skilled movements is gained, maintained, and adapted. The role of practice in learning will be thoroughly investigated. Lab required. Prerequisite: PED 2240.

This course is designed as an examination of the benefits, risks, and special precautions associated with exercise programs for people with selected chronic conditions and diseases. Specifically, exercise assessment and prescription will be addressed for people with cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, sensory deprivation, eating disorders, cognitive/nervous system disorders, respiratory disease, GI tract disturbances, diabetes, and pain.

This course is designed to help the student apply physiological, biomechanical, and motor-learning principles to the development of physical activity programs for older adults. The course will include development of technical and personal skills related to functional fitness assessment, exercise prescription, exercise leadership, and program management. Special emphasis will be placed on human relations and communication skills needed to effectively work with older adults.

3.00 Credits
This course examines the nature of handicapping conditions and the use of motor skill to enable adaptation to social life, community living, and recreational environments. Also examined will be the role of adaptive physical education in the regular physical education program, the special education program, school administrational functions, parental activity and related services. Practicum required. Prerequisite: PED 2340.

Through this course the major components of the middle school and secondary school physical education curriculums will be explored. Students will continue to build methodological knowledge and to refine teaching skills. Emphasis will be placed on the characteristics of the learner, evaluating teacher effectiveness and individualization of program content. In addition, knowledge and skill content of motor activities commonly present in middle/secondary schools will be reviewed. Practicum required. Prerequisite: Admittance to Teacher Education.

This course examines effective procedures of organization, administration and supervision of physical education programs. Included also is the use of media in instruction, selection of personnel, and the use of computers.

This course is designed to prepare the prospective physical education teacher to apply various methods and material associated with teaching and learning motor skills, fitness and health in K-12. Special attention to theories of motivation, classroom management, and lesson and unit planning. Prerequisites: Admission to Teacher Education Program and PED 4321.
