A survey of literature by writers of Latin American heritage writing in English. This course examines the experience and dilemmas of Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and other established and immigrant US Hispanic/Latino groups by studying recent writers and filmmakers, including an examination of the media images of Latinos. Topics include essentialism, biculturalism, marginality, transculturation, and acculturation. Credit, 3 semester hours. PREREQ: "C" grade or better in ENG1050 and 1060.
