Seminar on a broad topic that permits students to focus their studies of literature, rhetoric or language, sharpen their research skills, and lay groundwork for their honors projects normally completed in final semester under ENG (RHET, CW) 499. Emphasis on independent study and research, strategies for limiting and analyzing a topic, bibliography, formal reports on work in progress. Requires at least one substantial essay related to student's research. Prerequisites: senior standing and admission to the honors program.

Students work in teams to solve (add)-> real-life business problems for local businesses, (delete)-> actual case problems provided by the Small Business Institute of the School of Management; apply appropriate theory to problems in accounting procedures and records, cash flow, sales promotion and marketing retailing, production, personnel, organization and inventory control. Prerequisite: senior standing.

Focuses on identifying new venture opportunities; evaluating the viability of a new venture; writing a business plan; building a "E-team" that possesses the attributes necessary for success; financing, starting and operating a business; and creating liquidity for shareholders.

Multidisciplinary approach to study of relationships between environment and humans, from ecological perspective. Ecological principles, including material cycling, ecological relationships and succession. Examination of the role water plays in the natural environment and in societies. The course includes an introduction to the science of hydrology. Case studies are used to examine water's impact on society; examples can include water scarcity and cross-border tensions in the Middle East and between Mexico and the U.S.; flooding and drought; availability of clean water for drinking and sanitation in the Third World.

Examination of the major philosophical issues surrounding the environment and nature. Topics may include the value of nature; human obligations to the land, endangered species, non-human animals, ecosystems and future generations; vegetarianism; aesthetics and the environment; environmental racism; global warming; resource depletion; implications of environmental issues for ethical theory.

Interdisciplinary approach to the study of how humans interact with their environment, emphasizing environmental geology and environmental chemistry. Topics include: 1) human use of energy: sources, environmental consequences (including air pollution), socio-economic aspects; 2) natural hazards and their impact on human activities; 3) use of water, its contamination and waste disposal; 4) introduction to land use and environmental planning. Prerequisite: ENVI 101 or BIOL 117.

Introduction to environmental management and planning processes as they are addressed in public policy, with an emphasis on factors that influence decision-making, including politics, economics, public interest and legal requirements. Focus on difficulties associated with defining goals, with uncertainty in environmental impacts and with the balance between qualitative and quantitative factors in decision-making, using case studies.
