Basic lighting techniques for Theatre. Lighting instruments, control mechanisms, color media, basic electrical techniques. Lighting techniques for various types of performance facilities. Practical training by work on productions sponsored by department. Prerequisites: THEA 203 and THEP 213 or 214 or 215 or 216.

Introduction to the craft of costume design for the Theatre, including script analysis, paperwork and research of modern and period costume, using artists' materials: drawing and painting costume sketches, roughs and renderings. Developing presentation techniques, graphic communication skills and the art of collaboration. Art training not necessary, but an interest in the Theatre is. Prerequisites: THEA 203 and THEP 213 or 214 or 215 or 216, THEP 273 or 373, or consent of instructor.

Intensive course in costume construction techniques and equipment used in theatrical costumes. Will require completion of major construction project. Prerequisites: THEA 203 and THEP 213 or 214 or 215 or 216, and THEP 273 or 373, or consent of instructor.

Basic introduction into techniques and equipment used in theatrical sound production. First half covers the basis of sound, principles of acoustics and psychological impact as they relate to Theatre sound production and design. Students get hands-on use of equipment. Second half of course involves developing a sound design for a department production and implementing this design. Prerequisites: THEA 203 and THEP 213 or 214 or 215 or 216.

Guided practice in writing for stage. Students complete a short (30-40 minutes) play script.

Offers an introduction to the position of stage manager in theatrical productions, especially in the educational environment. Expands into the professional Theatre world, covering the positions of production stage manager, company manager and general manager. Covers, in depth, pre-production techniques, rehearsal practices, technical rehearsals, running a show and the post-production work involved in a typical show situation. Gives the student the basic tools necessary to completely perform the job of stage manager in either the educational world or in the professional world.

Study of the director's art in relation to script, actors, and physical performance space. Each student prepares a series of creative directing projects, which leads to full preparation, rehearsal and workshop performance of a short one-act play or a major scene from a full length work. Prerequisites: THEA 203 and THEP 213 or 214 or 215 or 216, and THEA 307, 308 and either 310 or 311 as well as one course from the following: THEA 206, 304 or 309.

Specific subjects in Theatre and dance history, theory or studio. Theatre faculty and guest artists in specialized areas of expertise. Individual sections have specific titles. May be repeated for credit if specific topics are different. 1-4 cr.

Practical experience in teaching of Theatre, by serving as teaching assistant to assigned instructor for particular course. May be repeated for total of no more than eight credits. Credit may not be earned in conjunction with course in which student is concurrently enrolled. Prerequisites: relevant coursework, consent of instructor and departmental approval. 1-4 cr.

Students present three or four scenes in class during semester; each scene then reworked based upon class discussion. Scenes must be prepared outside of class. Students are responsible for reading all plays from which scenes are presented. Prerequisites: THEA 307, 308 and 310 or 311. Repeatable.
