This course is designed to provide skills for implementation of political activism for health care providers and/or consumers. Discussions will focus on the politics of health policy in terms of legislative and executive processes at the state and federal level; key forces involved including economic, social, ethical and political factors; and central players of importance, including special interest groups, lobbyists, the press, elected officials, legislative staff and public agencies. Health systems of selected countries will be explored and compared to the US health system. 2 cr.

This course is designed to introduce fundamentals of computer applications in nursing to students. Content will include basic online and offline tools, principles of hardware and networking equipment, an overview of various collaborative methodologies, social and legal ramifications of electronic data, and various topics of how computer technology can enhance patient care. This course will be a mix of in-class and on-line experiences that will give students a working concept of the technologies discussed throughout the semester.

This course looks at aspects of forensics to include forensic assessment, evidence collection and documentation, criminal offending, victimization, civil issues, terrorism, and medico-legal death investigation. This course is an asynchronous online course, which means students work at their own pace, posting assignments by their due day and time. Students will discuss thought provoking issues such as wrongful convictions and Stockholm Syndrome, will learn by reading, using websites, analyzing videos, and other learning methods. 2 cr.

Mechanisms of disease, therapeutic modalities, analysis of laboratory data essential to make nursing decisions in clients' health status, planning nursing interventions to promote adaptive responses. Prerequisites: courses required for enrollment in upper division nursing courses. RN tracks may opt to take DSON challenge exam in lieu of this course. 2 cr.

Introduction to crisis theory and types of crises. Nursing practice for promotion of adaptation to normal developmental tasks and maturational crises. Theories of growth, development, family dynamics and aging. Exploration of alternate lifestyles. Beginning study of adaptation to loss. Class, college and clinical laboratory experiences. Prerequisites: NURS 320, 321, 322 (corequisite or prerequisite depending on program), and 351.
