    The psychological study of communication including the nature, ori- gins and functions of speech, processes in the acquisition of language, pathologies of linguistic behavior, psycholinguistic theories, changes in language and psychological factors in individual and group communica- tion situations. Prerequisite: SPC 102 3 hours a week, 1 semester, 3 credits. Fall A performance class that applies basic principles of Stanislavski technique to the study of acting as art and craft. Exercises in pan- tomime, improvisation, monologue, and scene work help to develop the actor's physical and vocal instrument, as well as the imagination, con- centration, and relaxation key to performance.     A performance class emphasizing advanced work in building a char- acter through an application of Stanislavski's principles of sensory awareness, emotional recall, and character study. Students achieve a thorough understanding of the text and sub-text of the comic and dra- matic scenes they perform and also insure an informed, detailed, and polished performance by reading and analyzing the dramatic literature from which their scenes are drawn Prerequisite: SPC 228 or permission of the instructor. Effective playscript selection, play analysis and research, production conception, casting, rehearsal, and giving and receiving of criticism are studied and prac- ticed.
