A preliminary investigation of structural, hydraulic, electrical and show control systems in the entertainment industry with emphasis on current industry practices. Prerequisite: EGG 198. College of Engineering 133

Quality assurance as a system problem. Components and theory of the system presented including quality fundamentals, process definition, basic statistics, sampling distributions, control charts, assignable causes, diagnosing a process, and process improvement. Current quality philosophies discussed. Prerequisites: MATH 182 and junior standing. 3 credits.

Engineering economic analysis for the evaluation of technical alternatives and necessary economic trade-offs made in planning, designing, and operating engineering systems. Prerequisites: Admission to construction management, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering major. 3 credits.

Automata and robots support humans and can interact with them. Introduces the technologies that enable computer-driven stagecraft, concepts of feedback control, robot control, and the computer technologies (hardware and software) to coordinate and automate sequences of events. Prerequisite: EGG 198. 3 credits.

Overview of the entertainment field, where technology is used to enhance entertainment experiences. Includes presentations by instructors and practitioners, field trips, and an interdisciplinary design experience of an entertainment venue. Prerequisite: EGG 198. 3 credits.

Fundamental concepts of computer visualization applicable to the entertainment industry. Particular focus on the development of collaborative skills among team members and the integration of engineering and stage management skills. Prerequisite: EGG 198. 3 credits.

A 180-hour field experience with appropriate practitioner person/organization. Student must propose experience elements to program steering committee for approval. Cannot be taken before 12 credits of specific entertainment engineering courses are already satisfied. Prerequisite: EGG 198. 3 credits.

Survey course in legal principles and theory for contracts, methods of doing business, patents, and copyrights. Topics include: product liability, nuisance, defamation, and other torts. Prerequisite: Senior standing in engineering. 3 credits.

Advanced mold making and casting techniques culminating in 3-D objects made in clay, porcelain, aluminum, bronze, and plaster. Prerequisite: ME 220. 3 credits.

Introduction to solar energy applications. Includes environmental motivations, historical perspectives, solar thermal processes and power generation, photovoltaics, building design applications, wind energy, biomass, alternative fuels, power utility considerations, and political factors. (Restricted to majors outside the Colleges of Engineering and Science.) Prerequisite: Upper-division standing. 3 credits.
