An introductory course in the nature and structure of the universe including our solar system, stellar structure and evolution, galactic structure, and the large-scale structure of the universe. Day and night observations will be used along with lab projects to familiarize students with the scientific methods used by astronomers. Prereq: equivalent of MATH 007 or higher. A survey of basic institutions of government in the United States, the powers they exercise, and the practical and philosophical influences that contributed to their development. This course also examines the relationships between federal, state, and tribal sovereignty, and the differences and similarities between how these three levels of government operate and are structured. Issues such as the differential effects of and access to power experienced by various cultural groups within the United States will be explored.
