    1 Credit, 2 Hours This course provides an experience for a creative approach to fitness by combining knowledge gained from readings, evaluation of one's fitness level and walking style. As part of an ongoing personal fitness program, the student will plan three independent walks at different local parks. This course will assist students whose schedules require flextime. The class will meet for twenty regular workouts for 10 weeks on the SUNY Rockland Community College campus. Students will have the opportunity to work out for one hour and fifteen minutes during the regularly scheduled Monday and Wednesday afternoon class or Tuesday and Thursday morning class. A short final paper is due at the end of the semester reflecting your experience in this course, reviewing your fitness achievements and outlining an effective maintenance-walking program including your three walks in local parks.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours Not a class in the martial arts, the course uses martial art techniques for exercise purposes. Basic warm-up stretches with sit-ups and push-ups will be required at each class including a one-half mile walk/run. Students will learn a basic H. Kata, which is videotaped.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours This course offers the student an opportunity to participate in a physical activity in an environment where outside stimuli are reduced providing the student maximum opportunity to concentrate on the unique movements of the Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a discipline of exercises, which are designed to improve and maintain physical, mental and spiritual well being and aid in reducing the effects of stress. The exercises are complimented by modes of deep breathing, concentration and relaxation, and visual techniques.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours The purpose of this course is to focus on weight training and cardiovascular fitness. Free weight, multi-station machines, individual machines and aerobic equipment are used for increasing strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. Techniques of self-testing, pulse rate monitoring and percent of body fat test will aid the student in exercising at his/her own pace. Students will design individual workouts based on pretest results and model workout programs. This is an excellent course for both men and women providing guidance for the beginner and opportunities for the advanced weight-training student to improve.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours The purpose of this course is to give each student an opportunity to develop a personal fitness program. The first five weeks will be semi nars to discus exercise, fitness, diet and weight control, program development, reading and self-testing techniques. Thereafter, students will meet in the SUNY Rockland Community College weight room to design an individual program based on the materials covered during the seminars. This course is excellent for both men and women providing guidance for the beginner and opportunities for the advanced to gain knowledge about different fitness programs.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours This one credit course helps meet the three-hour physical education requirement in all degree programs. One of the dangers that threaten all of us, as we get older is a loss of our sense of balance. Maintaining a sense of balance through our lifetime can prevent serious injury from falls. This course will help maintain and develop our balance and help reduce stress while also allowing students to develop strength and flexibility.

    1 Credit, 2 Hours The Tennis I, or beginning tennis, course is designed to introduce the student to the lifetime sport of tennis. It is an introductory course which emphasis on the fundamental skills involved in playing the game: grip, footwork, forehand and backhand, ground strokes, serve, volley, net play, as well as etiquette, rules of play, equipment and basic strategy utilized in proper singles and doubles.
