Required for LPN's and other students given advanced placement in the Nursing Process sequence through transfer or challenge credit.

    3.S Credits, 6.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) Pre- or co-requisite: ENG101 and PSY103 An introduction to the nature of nursing, the holistic nature of the patient and concepts of health. The nursing process, with its related skills of observation, taking a health history, doing a physical assessment, using therapeutic communication and health teaching, is presented as the basis of nursing practice. The nursing process is applied, through the use of case studies and clinical experiences to meeting the basic needs of patients or nutrition, elimination, body defense and psychological regulation. Clinical experiences are focused on the elderly patient in community and long term care settings. Basic nursing skills are learned in the nursing laboratory.

    3.S Credits, 6.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) Pre- or co-requisite: NUR 103, NUR 106, NUR HI, BIO 110, ENG 101 and PSY 103 The nursing process is applied to meeting the basic health needs of patients in the areas of body defense, mobility, gaseous transfer and chemical regulation. Laboratory experiences are provided in the nursing laboratory as well as in a variety of community and long term care settings.

    3.S Credits, 6.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) NUR 106, NUR HI, NUR 113, ENG 101, BIO 110, PSY 103 and current AHA Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification Pre- or co-requisite: CHM105 and ENG102 The nursing process is applied to meeting the needs of the adult patient with health problems related to the needs for psychological regulation and nutrition. Laboratory experiences are provided in the nursing laboratory and in mental health settings in the community. Current AHA Basic life support professional certification is a requirement of this course.

    3.S Credits, 6.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) NUR 106, NUR 111, NUR 113, ENG 101, BIO 110 and PSY 103 Pre- or co-requisite: BIO 111 and a PED course The nursing process is applied to meeting the needs of the adult patient with health problems related to the needs for elimination and mobility. Laboratory experiences are provided for students in the nursing laboratory and in orthopedic-rehabilitation settings in the community. NUR149 NCLEX Review 0Credits Required for completion of the Nursing Program. Graduating Nursing Program students only. Five day course reviewing the course work presented in the Nursing curriculum in preparation for the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure.

    3 Credits, 3 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 142 or LPN or RNlicense or permission of the Discipline Coordinator This course is designed to present physical assessment skills and knowledge which can be applied immediately in the health care setting to recognize and differentiate between normal and abnormal assessment findings. It will enhance patient assessment skills, promote integration of current nursing theory with clinical practice and enhance the participant's ability to function safely and effectively in the rapidly expanding role of the nurse in all health care settings.

    1Credit, 1 Hour This course addresses the need to prepare individuals in the community to administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. It fulfills the American Heart Association's requirement for professional certification in Basic Life Support and i ncludes topics such as: national statistics of cardiac mortality, and the roles of the health care professional in a culturally diverse society. Satisfactory course completion fulfills one credit of the physical education requirement.

    4 Credits, 8.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) NUR 106, NUR III, NUR 113, NUR 141, NUR 142, ENG101, ENG102, BIO 110, BIO III, CHMIOS, PED (I), PSYI03 and current MIA Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification Pre-co-requisite: PSYI9I, PSY2I2 and a PED course The nursing process is applied to meeting the needs of patients during the maternity cycle. Normal physiological, psychological and social changes are considered, as well as health problems due to deviations from the normal. Laboratory experiences are provided in maternity settings in the community and in the nursing laboratory.

    4 Credits, 8.5 Hours Prerequisite: NUR 103 (if clinical calculations competency test not passed) NUR 106, NUR III, NUR 113, NUR 141, NUR 142, ENG 101, ENG 102, BIO IIO, BIO III, CHMIOS, PED (I), PSY103 and current AHA Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification Pre-co-requisite: BIO 207 The nursing process is applied to meeting the needs of adult patients with health problems related to the need for body defense and the respiratory component of gaseous transfer. Laboratory experiences are provided in the nursing laboratory and in acute care and other medical-surgical settings in the community.

Laboratory experiences are provided in the nursing laboratory and in acute care and other medical-surgical settings in the community.
