4 Credits, 4 Hours Prerequisite: AUT102 Students learn the operations for engine rebuilding and in-chassis engine servicing. Operations include procedures for engine repair and overhaul. Students learn how to replace an engine according to federal emissions specifications. Upon successful completion of AUT 102 and AUT 104, students are prepared for the ASE certification examination covering engine repair and performance. This course meets the requirements for the CAP specific curriculum.

They learn current automotive emissions regulations and testing procedures. The use of engine and gas analyzers and other electronic test equipment are studied. Using different reference sources, students work on computerized emissions control systems, the ABS brake controller systems, the body controller and the suspension system. Upon successful completion of this class, students are prepared for the ASE certification examination in advanced engine performance. Offered Spring Semester.

3 hours, 3 credits. Prerequisites: AUT 203 or at least one year's experience as a technician. A study of heat flow and transfer, including change of state as applied to air conditioning systems and climate-controlled automotive environments. Testing, servicing and repair of heating/cooling systems, including recharging R-12 refrigerant and R-134a systems. Theory of operations and manufacturers' testing and diagnostic procedures are used to provide sufficient knowledge to adjust and repair components for proper performance and conformity with EPA regulations and requirements for inspection. This course prepares students for the ASE certification examination in automotive air conditioning. Offered spring semester.
