This course provides essential skill development using the touch system on the alphabetic keyboard and an introduction to basic word processing commands. Course emphasis will be on speed and accuracy when keying documents and timed writings. Students must achieve a speed of 35 GWPM on a 5-minute timed writing, with a maximum of 1 error per minute. This course emphasizes formatting and production of mailable letters, forms, reports, and tabulations from rough drafts and straight copies using word processing functions. Development of keyboarding speed and accuracy is also emphasized. Prerequisite: Key straight-copy material at a minimum of 35 GWPM on a 5- minute timed writing with a maximum of 1 error per minute or successfully complete Introduction to Keyboarding (BOT 1013).
