This course provides the learner with skills and knowledge in the area of "general population" exercise and fitness program design,applications, and implementation. The skills and knowledge gained in HEFI1601, HEFI1604, and HEFI1611 provide the basic foundation for success in this course. Prerequisite: HEFI1601 and HEFI1611.

This course provides the learner with skills and knowledge in the implementation of a consistent, progressive personal conditioning program. The course is structured around current researched models using stabilization, strength, and power in the areas of resistance, core, cardiovascular, and flexibility training. The student develops and enhances their personal fitness level to meet the requirement of industry to demonstrate a wide variety of exercise techniques and further develop neuromuscular coordination, biomechanics competencies, and kinesthetic body position awareness.

This course provides the learner with skills, knowledge, and abilities in the area of "lifestyle coaching." Topics include the study of the"wellness and health span" lifestyle, time management, inter-personalrelationships, psychology of health and fitness, goal setting, creative thinking, creative problem solving, stress management techniques, and client motivation and behavior change strategies.

Instruction prepares the student for working in an athletic or sport specific performance facility. The principles, methods, techniques, and programming of resistance strength training are covered in detail. Additional topics include testing and assessment, general athletic preparation, sport specificity analysis with exercise programming, prevention of athletic injuries, and performance enhancement. Lab activities include free and machine weights, plyometrics, core strengthening, speed, and power applications. Prerequisite: HEFI1602, HEFI1611 or BIOL1417, and HEFI1612 or BIOL1419.

Information covered in this course includes setting up fitness programs for mature adults, prenatal and postnatal, children's fitness, and sports specific strengthening. This course includes prevention of and response to injuries and knowledge of special medical conditions and exercise limitations. Prerequisite: BIOL1435, HEFI1602 and HEFI1609.

This course helps learners gain a better understanding of current health principles that affect the individual and community. Emphasis is on current health issues: nutrition, disease process, chemical use, family living, and awareness in the health educated person of the present and the future.

This course is an enhancement and progression from Personal Fitness I in the development of the student's personal fitness program, as required for employment in the fitness industry. Prerequisite: HEFI1617.

This course serves as a comprehensive review. The course identifies commonalities along with conceptual and procedural differences as found in the major national certification testing programs for exercise specialists, performance enhancement specialists, and certified personal trainers. Materials from the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine are reviewed. Prerequisite: HEFI1602, HEFI1609, HEFI1612, HEFI1615, and HEFI2602.

Internship is a supervised student occupational experience (SOE) at an approved employment training station. Forty-eight hours of SOE are required for each internship credit. The working situation is consistent with the student's career goals and program objectives. The internship provides students the opportunity to experience fulltime (30 hours per week or greater), paid, business and industry entry level, training related student occupational work experience, while simultaneously having the advantage of being supervised by a program instructor/coordinator. Any modifications to this internship policy must be endorsed by the program advisor and approved by Academic Affairs. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and advisor approval. Prerequisite: HEFI2608.
