Fundamentals of emission formation in combustion systems, wall quenching and imperfect combustion, unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, aldehydes, nitrogen oxides, species stratification in the combustion chamber, particulates. Effect of design parameters and engine operating variables on emission formation. Emission controls and instrumentation. (W)
