A study of basic topics in music theory as they relate to composition and performance. The course covers basic arranging and composition techniques including the study of scales, keys and pitch, intervals, chords, harmonic progression, melody and modulation.

3 credits A continuation of MUS 103. Emphasis will be placed on chart writing with more advanced compositional and arranging techniques. Advanced concepts in chord voicings and progressions will be explored. Students will learn melodic and harmonic considerations, including counterpoint and background writing techniques and applications. In addition to traditional manuscript, various electronic mediums for protection will be utilized including synthesizers and computer programs.

Introductory performance course designed to instruct students in acquiring the necessary skills needed to compose songs in the genres of jazz and some rock and pop. The result will be a performance ensemble, providing students with a forum to display their original compositions, as well as standards in the aforementioned genres. A "fake book" willbe used to learn the standards, as is common with such a performance ensemble.

A survey exploring American popular music from colonial times to the present, by means of recordings, films and live performances.

A study of the origins and development of jazz. Consideration will be given to the place of jazz in the United States and other cultures. There will be ample opportunity for guided listening to a variety of jazz styles.

An introduction to the fundamental principles of nursing; concepts and theories of wellness and illness; human psychological and biological responses; nursing interventions, practices, and processes. ( Prerequisites: Acceptance and enrollment into the PN program, compliance with medical requirements, CPR certified.)

An introduction to the general concepts and terminology of the preparation and administration of medications, including the nursing responsibilities and legal implications involved. Basic drug classifications and prototypes are studied. Clinical practice, reinforcement and enhancement of content is continued in NUR 101. ( Prerequisite: Taken concurrently with NUR 101; exceptions made by the Director of Nursing.)

Application of the nursing process to the care of children and adults who are experiencing common medical-surgical health problems. The childbearing family will be studied with an emphasis upon individual needs and health maintenance of mother and newborn. Principles of nutrition, pharmacology, biological and social sciences, and legal-ethical issues are included. Opportunities for application of theory are provided through planned clinical experiences. (Prerequisites: Successful completion of NUR 101, NUR 102 and B10 101.)

A transition for PNs and GPNs into the AAS nursing curriculum. Nursing process is reviewed with emphasis on assessment, diagnosis, and documentation (required at the RN level). Specific physical assessment and history-taking skills appropriate to the AAS student are taught, with opportunities to apply content in simulated situations. Students also explore role differentiation of the RN and PN. (Prerequisites: Acceptance and enrollment into the program; compliance with medical requirements, CPR certified.)

A study of the physiological and psychological responses to pregnancy, childbirth, and common pediatric health problems. RN level assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation are emphasized within the framework of nursing process. ( Prerequisite: Successful completion of NUR 200.)
