Explores the social, cultural, and aesthetic representation of women in Latin America in the 20th century. Topics include the relationship between societys expectations of women and literary production, the emergence of a feminist point of view, the role of women in political life, and the role of the writer in shaping national identity. Introduces Puerto Rican culture and placements in the community. Topics include migration, housing, employment, education, race and racism, machismo, and the Puerto Rican woman. This is a special topics course. The topic Introduces students to novels, short stories, essays and films that portray main urban centers in Latin America. Discusses issues raised by the representation of Mexico City, Medellin, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Santiago. Focuses on topics such as: violence, urban isolationn, globalizatiio, political upheavals, migration, and collective memory.

Explores building-based issues in the inclusion of learners with special needs and techniques, including cooperative learning, to include learners with special needs in general educational settings. Includes development of a collaborative plan describing implementation strategies for inclusion, team building, and school change. Requires site visit. Fleming.
