Instruction emphasizes backstage exposure to organizations and programs in the greater Boston area through site visits, guest lecturers, readings, and discussion. Topics include management in the museum and performing arts institution, the nonprofit arts organization, the marketplace for the arts, multiculturalism in the arts, public funding, and public art.

Offers first-hand experience of the rich cultural landscape of a major urban center in a four-week on-site experiential program that focuses on the following questions: What new relationships are emerging between art markets, philanthropy, public funding, and nonprofit arts organizations? What is the nature of the public trust in the art world of the 21st century? How do arts organizations balance tradition and change in a multicultural and global environment? This course, Introduction to Performing Arts Administration, examines the operations and management challenges of professional music, theatre and dance organizations. This seminar-style class combines lectures, readings, case studies, field trips to performing arts venues and performances, and guest lectures from professionals in the field. An introductory course in Modern Standard Arabic. Beginning skills are developed in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture. Assumes no prior familiarity with the Arabic language and uses a student-centered approach. Basic grammatical structures and sound patterns of Arabic are introduced, with careful attention to mastery of writing the Arabic script, learning to read the characters, pronunciation, and listening comprehension. Additional conversation practice plus written, audio, and video assignments required.
