A four-semester series of seminars required of Contemporary Improvisation majors and open to interested non-majors. Topics include the history and theory of Third Stream music and other cross-cultural musical fusions, the role of music in communities, tradition and creativity in music, projects in model composition, improvisational techniques, integration of advanced ear training skills with improvisation, development of musical memory, and the study of selected composers and performers and their works.
