Clinical application of Fundamentals of Nursing theory course includes a laboratory and a direct care component. An opportunity to learn and practice selected basic nursing skills is provided through simulated laboratory experience. Students are assigned to non-acute clinical settings that enable them to apply knowledge and skills to care of adult clients of various functional levels. Corequisites: ANT 101 (SO 1101), BIO 231 (SC 2115), PSY 101 (SO 5101), NUR 101 (NU 1111) Note: NUR 101 (NU 1111) must be taken concurrently with NUR 102 (NU 1311)

3.00 Credits
A study of the basic arithmetic techniques used in dosage and solution computations. Topics include a review of decimals, fractions, ratio and proportion. The metric and apothecary systems and conversion between systems are emphasized. Offered each semester including summer on a flexible schedule through the Self-Paced Learning Center. This course is intended for applicants to the nursing program who wish to review basic skills that will enable them to be successful on the Math for Nursing exam.

Integrates knowledge from Maternity, Pediatric, and Gerontological Nursing into a developmental perspective. The focus is on normal growth and development and the common health problems that arise from alterations in growth and development. The student acquires the knowledge and skills to deliver culturally sensitive nursing care to clients across the life span. Prerequisite: NUR 101 (NU 1111), NUR 102 (NU 1311), ANT 101 (SO 1101), PSY 101 (SO 5101), BIO 231 (SC 2115) Corequisites: BIO 232 (SC 2116), ENG 101 (EN 1103), NUR 152 (NU 1321) Note: NUR 152 (NU 1321) must be taken concurrently with NUR 151 (NU 1121)

The focus is on acquiring knowledge that allows students to deliver culturally competent care to adult clients with common acute and chronic physical and mental health problems. Prerequisites: NUR 151 (NU 1121), NUR 152 (NU 1321), BIO 232 (SC 2116), ENG 101 (EN 1103). Corequisites: BIO 235 (SC 2123), MAT 085 (MA 1129), NUR 202 (NU 1331) Intensive Values: Written Communication Note: NUR 202 (NU 1331) must be taken concurrently with NUR 201 (NU 1213)

The practicum for Nursing Care of the Adult I provides experiences in acute Medical/Surgical, and Psychiatric settings that correlates with presentation of didactic content in concurrent theory course. An opportunity to practice selected nursing skills is also provided through simulated laboratory experiences. Prerequisites: NUR 151 (NU 1121), NUR 152 (NU 1321), ENG 101 (EN 1103), BIO 232 (SC 2116) Corequisites: BIO 235 (SC 2123), MAT 085 (MA 1129), NUR 201 (NU 1213) Note: NUR 201 (NU 1213) must be taken concurrently with NUR 202 (NU 1331).

Assists students in learning how to give culturally competent comprehensive nursing care to adult clients with acute or chronic health problems. Emphasis is placed on synthesis of knowledge from the biophysical sciences and previous nursing courses. Basic principles of community health and leadership/management are presented as they relate to the role of the ADRN. Prerequisites: NUR 201 (NU 1213), NUR 202 (NU 1331), BIO 235 (SC 2123), MAT 085 (MA 1129). Corequisites: ENG 102 (EN 1105), NUR 252 (NU 1341), Humanities/Social Science restricted elective for 4th semester Nursing students. Note: NUR 252 (NU 1341) must be taken concurrently with NUR 251 (NU 1221).

Note: NUR 251 (NU 1221) must be taken concurrently with NUR 252 (NU 1341).

Focus is on the standards of practice, legal and ethical considerations, and career preparation as they relate to nursing practice. This course explores how the court system is used to resolve disputes. It emphasizes litigation that does not involve criminal conduct. Topics will include jurisdiction, substantive and procedural laws, investigation, and preparation of the lawsuit. The class will pay particular attention to the practical aspects of how a paralegal assists a lawyer in the variety of tasks essential to the litigation process. Prerequisite: Placement above or successful completion of ENG 060 (EN 2103) and eligible for ENG 101 (EN 1103).

This course provides an introduction to legal research techniques and writing. It will examine the importance as well as the limitations of legal research and the law library. Emphasis is placed on development of the skills required to research a problem in terms of background, specific fact, and validation. The fundamentals of legal writing are presented through preparation of research and memoranda. Students will use WESTLAW and LEXIS-NEXIS during this course. Prerequisite: Placement above or successful completion of ENG 060 (EN 2103) and eligible for ENG 101 (EN 1103). Intensive Values: Written Communication.
