This four-day per week certification course will provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the health field as a Home Health Aide. At the successful completion of training, students will receive certification in the area of Home Health Aide Level Three. This certification will allow students to seek positions in three different careers. The first area, Homemaker, qualifies students to care for an individual's home environment. The second area, Personal Care Homemaker, builds on the Homemaker tasks and adds the knowledge and skill of assisting a stable but needy client in performing personal care. These activities include learning how to bathe, dress, groom, transfer, and ambulate a client. The third area, Home Health Aide, builds on all prior learned skills, but adds the special skills of caring for a medically-ill client. Throughout each phase of the educational process, students will become an effective and competent part of a health care team. At completion, job placement services are available. An interview is required before registration (see course schedule). Text required.

This twelve-hour certificate course is designed as advanced training for Home Care Aides (HCA) or Certified Nurse Assistants (C.N.A.) who care for clients with Alzheimer's disease. The program focuses on six aspects of management which include: understanding the progression of Alzheimer's disease, personal care concerns, communication, problem behavior, the role of the family, safety for the caregiver, and logging behaviors. This pass-fail course will provide handouts to the participants for take home reminders of the specific topics and skills covered. Through proper management, the stress-related behaviors of dementia can be minimized or even eliminated and the most functional lifestyle possible can be experienced for both the client and the caregiver. Family members are also welcome to enroll in this class.

This course is designed to prepare students for the State of Massachusetts EMT certification exam. Components include instruction in how to handle medical, traumatic and psychiatric emergencies - ranging from simple cuts to heart attacks and strokes. As part of this course, students perform clinical time in a hospital emergency room, and on ambulance. Students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to handle many types of emergencies. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to take the MA EMT Exam. Student become Certified EMTs only after passing the State exam. The State exam fee and cost of uniforms are additional. (136 hour lecture/10 hour lab) Book required.
