    Too many of us waste time trying to decide between affect and effect, accept and except, lie and lay, "between you and I" or "between you and me". There's total confusion about using commas and periods with final quotation marks. Do they go inside? Outside? When should we every day or everyday? This course is designed to help everyone speak and write correctly. Topics will include: active and passive voice, capitalization, change in grammar rules and usage, numbers parts of speech, pronouns, rules for all major and minor punctuation marks, sentence structures and comma rules, essential vs. nonessential clauses and vocabulary.     This 48-hour course is designed to prepare students for the GED test. PLATO software is available in the classroom to allow students to progress at their own rates. Instructional emphasis is on English language and reading skills, as well as mathematics and use of the GED test- specific calculator. The course is a fast review, not designed to address needs for in-depth ESOL or ABE instruction. Before registering, a pre-assessment is required.

    Participants work in small groups to discuss and create ideas for a possible small business. PhotoShop software is then used to design logos, letterheads, and brochures for each team enterprise. Teamwork, the use of creative design, and PhotoShop skills are emphasized.

    This course will begin with a thorough overview of the computer and the Windows operating system. Participants learn the basics of Windows to comfortably continue on their journey on to Microsoft Word (for word processing) and Microsoft Excel (to be introduced to spreadsheet software) and PowerPoint (for work-related presentations). Students will easily absorb computer knowledge through a hands-on, teacher led approach, and will each product their resume in MS Word as an outcome. All assignments will simulate workplace projects. A college certificate will be provided.

    Students will learn the basics of interpersonal communication: body language, eye contact, tone of voice. They will understand the differences between personal and professional forms of communication. From these basics, they will apply communication principles to an understanding of customer service, managing stress and anger in the workplace, and how good workplace communication enhances the principles of teamwork.
