    In-depth study of the disciplinary framework for marketing and its applications to target markets and the optimization of marketing decisions. Students develop and practice techniques in five key stages of the framework: market orientation and research, segmentation and positioning, marketing mix, branding, and retailing and B2B. Emphasizes marketing management for the general manager, in particular profit optimization in chosen markets, and pricing, promotion, and product issues. Restricted to Executive MBA students.     Covers modern tools and methods for product design and development. The cornerstone is a project in which teams of management, engineering, and industrial design students conceive, design, and prototype a physical product. Class sessions employ cases and hands-on exercises to reinforce the key ideas. Topics include product planning, identifying customer needs, concept generation, product architecture, industrial design, concept design, robust design, and green design practice.     Introduces system dynamics modeling for the analysis of business policy and strategy. Provides the skills to visualize an organization in terms of the structures and policies that create dynamics and regulate performance. Uses causal mapping, simulation models, case studies, and management flight simulators to help develop principles of policy design for successful management of complex strategies. Considers the use of systems thinking to promote effective organizational learning. Restricted to Executive MBA students. Prerequisite:    Prereq: Permission of instructor

Includes process analysis, project analysis, materials management, production planning and scheduling, quality management, supply chain design and coordination, reengineering, design for manufacturing, capacity and facilities planning, and operations strategy. Prerequisite:    Prereq: 15.060 or 6.041

    In-depth introduction to the fundamental concepts and techniques related to the design, planning, control, and improvement of strategic, operational and tactical execution capabilities of business environments in various application domains, including manufacturing and service operations. Covers a broad range of applications and industries, such as high-tech, financial services, insurance, automotive, health care, leisure, fashion, and retail. Special emphasis on the effects of uncertainty on strategic and operational decision-making and to the interplay between high-level financial objectives and low-level operational guidelines. Topics include process description, flow diagrams, capacity analysis, capacity ROI, cycle time analysis, inventory management, delayed postponement, production control, risk pooling, quality management, process design and revenue management. Summer section is primarily for Leaders for Global Operations students. Prerequisite:    Prereq: 15.060, 6.041, or permission of instructor
  • 2.00 Credits

    Focuses on effective supply chain strategies for companies that operate globally, with emphasis on how to plan and integrate supply chain components into a coordinated system. Students are exposed to concepts and models important in supply chain planning with emphasis on key tradeoffs and phenomena. Introduces and utilizes key tactics such as risk pooling and inventory placement, integrated planning and collaboration, and information sharing. Lectures, computer exercises, and case discussions introduce various models and methods for supply chain analysis and optimization. Recommended for Operations Management concentrators. First half-term subject. Prerequisite:    Prereq: 1.260J, 15.760, or 15.761
