Students are required to present their research results to a departmental faculty group towards the end of the semester. The permission of the department chairperson is to be obtained when the individual faculty member has agreed to direct the student's research project.

The course then focuses on the origins of the current situation with specific attention to changes in the housing markets including the development of securitization and accompanying financial innovations.
