Studies include ballad and swing patterns, odd meters, Latin, solo, and ensemble playing. Various contemporary brush stylists will be examined. In addition, continued repertoire study is included.

The program includes hands-on work with electronic drum kits, drum machines, and the programming, triggering, and interfacing of the same.

Anderson Required of:None Electable by:Drum set, total percussion, and hand percussion principals Offered:Spring, Fall Description This course responds to the work of DJs and programmers who have opened up new ground in the world of drumming with their samples, loops, and innovative programming. This course will present ways in which these same samples, loops, and programs can be applied to the drum set. Focusing on the work of artists such as Underworld, DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and others, students will transcribe and orchestrate the rhythms and beats of these artists and then perform these transcriptions in solo, duo, and trio drum set contexts.
