This capstone seminar course prepares students to deliver culturally competent care to diverse populations. Students are expected to utilize health assessment, environmental assessment, care planning and research skills to develop a health care plan for members of an ethnic population present in the greater Worcester area. In developing this plan, students are expected to utilize and integrate Catholic Social Teaching, historic and cultural knowledge, and the Neuman Systems Model. For their final assignment, students lead a seminar discussion on the health care plan they have developed for their chosen population group. Prerequisites: All other BSN nursing courses toward the degree.

This course focuses on the physiological factors and pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, comprehensive assessment of the adult cardiac patient, contemporary diagnostic procedures and primary and secondary interventions. It prepares the student to take the American Nurses' Association Credentialing Center Certification Examination in Cardiac/Vascular Nursing. Prerequisites: NUS 301, NUS 302, NUS 304.

The Neuman Systems Model provides the framework for assessing the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual aspects of aging. The model focuses on the strengths and vulnerabilities of individual clients in relation to the stressors they encounter and guides nursing interventions. This course prepares students for certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Prerequisites: NUS 301, NUS 302, and NUS 304.

Using a preceptor model, students complete a clinical practicum in sites with well and ill elders.

Parish nursing is considered to be a ministry as well as a nursing specialty. It provides an opportunity for the nursing professional to demonstrate caring for mind, body, and spirit. Steps needed to establish a Parish Nursing Program and the roles of the Parish Nurse will be explored. The International Parish Nursing Resource Center's basic Parish Nursing Preparation Program serves as the core curriculum of this course. Prerequisites: NUS 301, NUS 302, NUS 304 and permission of the Program Director.

An introduction to the method and topics of philosophical study.

An introduction to the traditional topics of speculative philosophy pertaining to nature, the human person, and God. Major attention is given to philosophical accounts of the soul by Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, St. Thomas, Pascal, Freud, and William James.

An investigation of the rational basis for morality in an attempt to establish principles and to arrive at a system of values for living the good life.

An investigation into why people are political, what makes for a healthy political order, and what is the purpose of political life. Major attention is given to the Greek thought of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; the Christian thought of Augustine and St. Thomas; and the modern political thought of such thinkers as Machiavelli, Locke, and Marx.
