    Prerequisite: must be 16 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructors course, and successfully complete the precourse session This course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses. The following topics are covered: using information from the American Red Cross instructor candidate training courses; planning and organizing courses, including the use of block plans and lesson plans; ensuring participants' health and safety; providing information and skill-development sessions necessary to conduct and teach swimming and water safety courses; conducting practice teaching; evaluating participants' performance; and explaining Red Cross national and field unit operational policies and procedures related to swimming and water safety courses. Students who successfully fulfill course requirements will be eligible for American Red Cross WSI certification. Course fee: $30.00

    Prerequisite: HTH 1600 This course is designed to place the student in a field experience directly related to their intended course of study. Individuals enrolling in the course will work with a CSM instructor and a professional organization focused on exposing the student to segments of the industry in a professional setting. Students will meet in the campus as assigned to evaluate and discuss their experiences.

    Prerequisite: water skills will be assessed during first class Students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving in lakes, bays, and oceans. Students learn principles of diving physics and physiology, selection and maintenance of equipment, and safe diving practices. In addition to pool training, students participate in four open water scuba dives and one skin dive. Upon course completion, students qualify for YMCA, PADI, and SSI Open Water Diver certification. The lecture portion of this course may be taken through independent study. In addition, individuals who are already certified as Open Water Divers (including military divers) may earn credit for this course by completing a knowledge review session. Contact the aquatics coordinator for details. Additional expenses include mask, fins, snorkel, texts, openwater dive fees, and related expenses. Certain past or present medical conditions may require a student to obtain a medical examination. Credit for this course may be earned through departmental examination. Course fee: $279.00

    Prerequisite: any nationally recognized Open Water Diver certification This course provides the novice diver with a structured, well-supervised means to gain additional diving experience. It consists of five open water training dives; three are core (required) dives, and two are elective dives. Core dives orient students to the fundamentals of advanced diving and include underwater navigation, night diving, and deep diving. Students select two elective dives that interest them from a list of nine specialty dives. Students with current CPR and First Aid certification may qualify for an Advanced Open Water Diver Plus rating. Upon successful completion, students qualify for YMCA, PADI, and SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Individuals, who are already certified Advanced Open Water Divers (including military divers), may earn credit for this course by completing a scuba knowledge review session.     Prerequisite: none Students improve their cardiovascular endurance through aerobic activities such as jogging, circuit training, full-court basketball, and indoor soccer. Muscular strength and endurance are enhanced by weight training. Classes provide guidelines for cardiovascular exercise and proper nutrition. Offered in the fall semester. Course fee: $35.00

    Prerequisite: WFS 2310 Students continue to improve their cardiovascular endurance through regular aerobic exercise. Additional emphasis is placed on weight training to enhance muscular strength and endurance. Students are required to write a research paper on a health/fitness topic related to the WFS 2310 class material such as cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, prevention of heart disease, strength training, and stress management. Offered in the spring semester. Course fee: $35.00
