TED 2021: Teacher Education Practicum:Secondary

Prerequisite: TED 2030 taken in the same or a previous semester; plus 30 additional credits earned toward the degree; plus permission of department chair Students are assigned to field work at the secondary level. Students work under the guidance and supervision of public school and college faculty. They are assigned tasks in support of classroom teaching as are permitted by the policies of the school system. Grades are determined by college faculty. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from assigned field site.

The course provides students with practical, efficient ways to integrate technology resources and technology-based methods into curriculum-specific practices. Students examine best practice use of educational technology in course-specific subject areas, review software available for use in the classroom, and develop a comprehensive list of resources. Students develop a curriculum-specific project demonstrating the effective use of technology.

Prerequisite: ENG 1010 and COM 1010 and SOC 1010 or PSY 1010, plus 15 additional credits in the teacher education program, plus approval of the department chair Students gain first-hand experience in working with children in a school setting through substitute teaching. Co-op students earn regular substitute pay and have their experience supervised by a faculty advisor with input from teachers and administrators in the school system. Ten full days (80 hours) of substitute teaching is required. Students may earn two additional credits by enrolling in TED 2911 and TED 2912.
