The organization and function of a Nuclear Medicine Department will be described as to staffing, responsibilities, facilitation of patient throughput, equipment selection, interdepartmental and medical staff relationships. The therapeutic application of Nuclear Medicine will be studied. Specific procedures with a review of physiology and pathology and the properties of radionuclides will be presented. It is intended that this course is a summary of basic Nuclear Medicine Technology practice and will cover the material usually included on national certification/registry examinations. The mechanics of taking a multiple choice examination will also be discussed. An in-depth registry review will be given with mock registries taken by the students. Prerequisite: NMT 207. Through extensive case study presentations, students can incorporate their didactic training to actual work-related activities in the clinical laboratories. Students will be required to attend society functions and read society journals. The student will explore the avenues of administrative and management functions performed by a nuclear medicine technologist. Upon completion of this course, all students will demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role of a nuclear medicine technologist. Prerequisite: NMT 206, NMT 212.
