    An opportunity for semester or summer involvement in selected professional organizations related to integration of concentrations and preparation for graduate school and/or employment.     (formerly INT 288) To complete this major each student will be expected to integrate courses/areas of concentration he/she has taken. An in-depth interdisciplinary project or paper must be pursued. Presentations will be both oral and written. Each seminar student will be individually advised by the Chairperson. (Offered Fall, Spring) 3-5 credits

    (formerly ITA 115, 125 Italian Conversation) These are introductory courses that focus on the development of communicative proficiency in the Italian language. These courses afford students the opportunities to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Italian, as well as to gain knowledge and understanding of the culture. Particular emphasis is placed in the systematic mastery of vocabulary and conversational skills. ITA 101 is intended for students with little or no previous experience in the language. ITA 102 is intended for students who have taken ITA 101 or with 3 or more years of Italian at the secondary level. Students are required to complete an hour of lab work per week in the Language Resource Center. (Offered Fall, Spring) Fee-$25.00 for each course. 3, 3 credits

    These are introductory courses that focus on the development of basic communication competency in Italian. Students will have the opportunity to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Italian and to learn basic grammatical structures and sufficient vocabulary to engage in every day communication situations. NOTE: These two courses must be taken together and only in Molloy's Summer Study Abroad Program in Italy. Students with no previous experience in the language may enroll. 3, 3 credits

    (formerly ITA 135 Italian for Everyday) This course is designed to reinforce and expand the necessary skills acquired in previous courses and to achieve the next step towards communicative proficiency. Emphasis is placed on the study of more advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. Students will read a variety of high-interest texts as well as experience videos, music, news broadcasts, etc., that provide models for discussion and writing, and that are a means for understanding the contemporary culture of Italy. Prerequisite: ITA 102 or equivalent. Students are required to complete an hour of lab work per week in the Language Resource. (Offered Fall, Spring) Fee-$25.00. 3 credits

    These are courses designed to apply communicative skills to everyday life situations and to develop language fluency skills for intermediate-level students. Students will be exposed to different authentic texts (newspaper articles, literary texts, new broadcasts, films, etc.) and topics pertaining to Italian contemporary culture. Students should be able to engage in meaningful discussions of these texts at an intermediate-level. Prerequisite: ITA 102 or ITA 113/114 or departmental approval. NOTE: These two courses must be taken together and only in Molloy's Summer Study Abroad Program in Italy. 3, 3 credits

    (formerly Cultures of Italy) This course is designed to reinforce oral expression and comprehension. Spoken Italian is stressed by a review of grammar and idiomatic strategies for self-expression and the expression of ideas on cultural topics of current interest. Materials used include journalistic texts, films, short stories and songs. ITA 201 may be taken concurrently with this course. Prerequisite: ITA 102 or equivalent. (Offered Fall, Spring) 3 credits

    This course is designed to prepare the intermediate students of Italian to further advance their knowledge of the language and culture and acquire reading and writing skills in Italian. This course has a particular emphasis in practicing reading and writing as a process and a means of developing critical thinking while exposing the students to different genres: expository prose, editorials and opinion, fiction, poetry and drama. It offers a review of grammatical structures and syntax, as well as textual analysis. Prerequisite: ITA 201 or 215. 3 credits

    These courses provide students with an in-depth examination of Italian grammar and syntax. Students will have opportunities to select effective strategies and techniques for the application of rules to enhance communicative proficiency in speaking, writing, listening and reading. At the end of this level, students should be able to communicate and engage in meaningful discussions with native speakers over a wide range of social and professional topics. Prerequisite: ITA 203, 204, 305, or departmental approval. 3, 3 credits
