Questions deal with privacy, piracy, viruses, hackers, ownership of intellectual property, ownership of data specific to an individual, security of electronic transactions and reliability of programs essential to safety.     The concepts and tools for the analysis and design of information systems in business are presented. Students apply the key concepts in designing their own information system project. The focus is on structured analysis and design techniques using the ideas of logical data flow diagrams, extended entity-relationship models, user interface prototypes and process diagrams.     (formerly CSC 334) A continuation of CIS 333 (formerly CSC 333), concentrating on advanced programming and file handling techniques using the COBOL programming language. Special emphasis will be given to writing, compiling and executing selected COBOL programs. Prerequisite: CSC 333. (Not offered 2007-2008) Lab Fee-$50.00. 3 credits

    (formerly CIS 239) Students will study the design, construction and management of local area networks. Topics covered will include: networking standards and the OSI model, network protocols, network media, physical and logical topologies including Ethernet and Token Rings, connectivity hardware including hubs, bridges, switches and routers and troubleshooting and maintaining local area networks. Prerequisite: CIS 250. (Offered Fall) Lab Fee-$50.00. 3 credits

    (formerly CIS 240) Students will study the design, construction and management of wide area networks. This will include physical and logical topologies, network hardware, network operating systems, protocols and client/server architecture including the internet. Prerequisite: CIS 339.     (formerly CIS 260-261) A protracted field experience offering theory-practice opportunity. Activities will be supervised by participating personnel at place of business. Course requires a one hour weekly seminar with a faculty sponsor, a satisfactory rating by field supervisor and atleast 80 hours in the field for three credits. Prerequisites: CIS 224, 250, 339, MAT 118, ENG 236; COM 110 or 114; junior or senior status; at least 12 CIS credits must have been taken at Molloy. Permission of Chairperson required. (Offered upon request) 3-6 credits

    Students will organize and operate as IS teams to complete the design and implementation of a significant information system. Project management of the IS function and systems integration will be components of the project experience. Prerequisite: All other required CIS courses; senior status.
