3 class hours This study uses The Medical Manager? Student Edition to familiarize students with the capabilities of a medical practice management program. Students will maintain patient files, store treatment information, match codes with treatment procedures and charges, and perform related tasks. Prerequisite: SES 119, SES 123

3 class hours Fundamental instruction in CPT (Current Procedural Technology) and ICD-9-CM (International Classification of Diseases). Prerequisite: SES 220

3 class hours Utilizes transcription medium to improve accuracy and speed. Increases familiarity with medical reports, knowledge of medical terms/drugs/instruments, acceptable medical abbreviations, and exposure to medical reference research tools. Encourages respect for and adherence to ethical conduct. Emphasis is on transcribing, proofreading, and editing. Prerequisite: SES 119, SES 123

3 class hours, 9 lab hours Develops the student's self-confidence knowing that the ability to safely use sheet metal hand tools and machines has been accomplished. Items being taught include: materials of the trade; straight, parallel, and radial line methods of pattern layout; and fabrication of edges, seams, clips, locks and fasteners, their selection and different uses.

3 class hours, 9 lab hours Provides knowledge of the more difficult parallel line methods of pattern development. It covers the radial line, introduces the triangulation methods of layout, and acquaints the student with the fabrication of jobs employing these methods. Prerequisite: SHM 111

1 class hour, 2 lab hours Provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a computerized fitting layout system. Prerequisite: SHM 121

3 class hours Introduces basic concepts and descriptive materials of sociology, including society, culture, social organization, social mitigation, and social and cultural change.

3 class hours The purpose of this course is to help students explore and understand social work and social welfare. It focuses on the why, what, who, where, when, and in a beginning way, the how of social work and social welfare. The course will include modern concepts of social welfare and social work as well as examination of changes over time. Exploration of the human needs that are addressed by social welfare institutions within the context of the culture, politics, and economy of the American society will be included. In addition a brief exploration of the Canadian social welfare with comparisons will take place. A basic array of services will be discussed with special attention to services in a rural context, and to populations at risk of societal oppression.

3 class hours An analytical introduction to contemporary social issues and problems in the United States, with emphasis on the underlying causes of and competing solutions to each issue. Issues to be discussed include abortion, aging, crime and violence, race and ethnic relations, medical care, family dysfunction and overpopulation. Prerequisite: any Behavioral Science course
