Topics include interactions between Europeans, Indians and Africans in America; the impact of English colonial developments; American slavery; causes and consequences of the American Revolution; development of antebellum America; foreign policy and territorial expansion in North America; and the American Civil War. Prerequisite for all advanced courses in American history.

Topics include Reconstruction, industrialization, immigration, Progressivism, Twentieth-Century American foreign policy and wars, the Great Depression and New Deal, the Cold War and civil rights movement, and contemporary domestic and foreign policy developments.
