(3 Credit Hours) This course provides a broad overview of police work; its responsibilities, functions, theory, and history. Students will study different law enforcement agencies, different positions within agencies, controversial issues in police work, court decisions that affect police work, police management issues, and problems female officers and minority officers have encountered.

(1 Credit Hour) A review of important elements of human relations as they apply to occupations in criminal justice and corrections. In five three hour sessions this course will address community attitudes as they impact criminal justice and corrections personnel, interrelationships between and among criminal justice and corrections personnel, methods for enhancing relations with minorities and other groups in the community, stress and conflict management.

(3 Credit Hours) An introduction to the treatment of criminal offenders including federal, state and local penal systems, probation, parole, intermediate, and community corrections. Topics will also include recidivism, the history of penal agencies, ethics, and underlying philosophies of rehabilitation.

(3 Credit Hours) This course will prepare officers to write more professional reports in less time and increase the chances for convicting the suspect in court. The course will also deal with crime reports, arrest reports, and search warrants. Pre-requisite: Instructor's consent.

(3 Credit Hours) This course will cover all aspects of the Private Security Industry, from its earliest history to the present. It will cover selection and training of personnel, the security at banks, hospitals and airports. It will address how to avoid lawsuits, crime prevention, physical security, and risk management.

(3 Credit Hours) This course builds on the information provided in CJC 101. Students will learn different leadership styles, and problems unique to each part of the criminal justice system.

(3 Credit Hours) This course will prepare the student for the final phase of an officer's work on any case courtroom testimony. This course will prepare the student to look and sound professional on the stand.

(3 Credit Hours) A survey of both theoretical and applied approaches on the nature, extent, and causes of juvenile delinquency; characteristics of delinquency; treatment and prevention; laws pertaining to juveniles; detention facilities, criminal justice, and social service agencies.

(3 Credit Hours) This course will explore several issues: 1. The influence the mass media has on people's perception of crime in our society, and the efficiency of our criminal justice system. 2. How the media has been beneficial in preventing and fighting crime. 3. The impact violent media has on violence in our society. 4. The impact pornography has on violence in our society. 5. The Supreme Court cases that influence the power of the mass media. 6. Censorship of the press.

(3 Credit Hours) An introduction to the history, philosophy and theory of crime and deviance. This course will explore the complexities and causation of crime and deviance. Students will focus on the sociological factors that influence deviance and popular approaches to understanding and responding to these behaviors. The course will explain the different crimes, and organized crime. The course will also cover mass killers and terrorism.
