MAS 124: Pathology for Therapeutic Massage

This course addresses the causes and prevention of disease and examines the mechanism of the disease process. Acute and chronic conditions that are most likely to be encountered in professional practice will be discussed in detail, with emphasis on the indications and contraindications for massage therapy. Attention will also be given to stress-related disorders and those considered to have a psychological basis. Basic principles of pharmacology, including prescription drugs as well as herb and natural supplements, will be discussed. This course serves as a basis for students who plan to study business mathematics, algebra, or technical mathematics.
