    This course introduces the student to mid-range Control Language. Students will learn to write and debug CL programs using message handling facilities, data queues, data areas, logic statements, arithmetic expressions, menus, command creation, program calls, and workflow control.     Fundamentals of UNIX instructs students in how to use the UNIX operating system and introduces the CDE, GNOME, and KDE graphical user interfaces (GUI). An overview of the Sun Solaris and Linux versions of the UNIX operating system is provided. The class is for new users of the UNIX operating environment. You will learn fundamental command-line features of UNIX including file system navigation, changing file permissions, and vi and emacs text editors, IKorn and Bash shell features, and basic network use. GUI features include Application Managers, File Managers, Text Editors, printing, and mail.     0 3 3 Application development using the C++ language and the object-oriented programming methodology is the emphasis of this course. Application programs will be designed and implemented using classes, inheritance, encapsulation, and polymorphism. The applications will involve data structures around collection classes that include linked lists, queues, stacks and binary trees.     This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of the RPG programming language using the mid-range computer. Emphasis is placed upon the understanding and coding of specification forms and the concepts involved in a structured format for typical business applications. Topics include language syntax, the RPG Cycle, input/output operations, arithmetic operations, control break processing, exception output, and sequential file processing. Continued implementation of current programming practices, i.e., structured coding, is emphasized.     This course is a continuation of CIS 230. Topics covered in the first course are expanded to include the use of key sequenced files, accessing database files, the use of Screen Design Aid (SDA), Report Layout Utility (RLU), and interactive programming. Students will learn to code RPG programs that use facilities such as subfiles, subprograms, error-recovery programming, data structures, multiple occurrence data structures, and table and array processing.     This course is a fast-paced review of the VB programming language, followed by exploration of the advanced features found in Visual BASIC. The professor, in combination with the interest of the class, will choose topics. Some of the typical topics include advanced objectoriented programming techniques, user defined objects and properties, using control arrays, embedding a web browser or FTP client in your application, advanced mouse manipulation, and using VBA to interface with other applications.     This course is an introduction to the Java Programming Language with an emphasis on structured program design. The Java language is a portable, platform-independent, objectoriented language, widely used for constructing interactive Internet sites, as well as fullfledged business applications. Students will learn the basics of the Java Programming Language utilizing a hands-on computer lab. This course includes algorithm development, structured design, and files processing, including topics of control arrays, exception handling, and the use of multiple forms. Introduces database manipulation and database controls. Familiarity with C++ is strongly recommended.
