The airframe course is a non-certification course including aerodynamics, wood work, composite materials, fabric and finishes, sheet metal construction and repair, welding, rigging for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, airframe systems, avionics, hydraulics, landing gear, tires, brakes, and inspections. The powerplant course is a non-certification course including reciprocating engine overhaul and maintenance, engine systems, propeller operation and maintenance, accessory systems, gas turbine operation and maintenance, fuel metering systems, and powerplant electrical systems. AVIT majors only. This course enables students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to safely exercise the privileges and responsibilities of a Private Pilot acting as Pilot-in-Command of a single-engine airplane. The student must complete the appropriate academic and flight lessons to satisfactorily complete the course. (5 hrs. lect. per week)
